#tbt to 1970 - sometimes we forget about the everyday beauty that we pass by as we’re bustling through the city. the battery maritime building was built in 1909 and features many beautiful architectural details. this graphic ⚓️ railing on the balcony overlooking the street is a hidden gem that we wanted to share with all our visitors.
don’t forget, we’re open may 1 this year! when you come to visit, look up at this lovely building before you board the ferry to #governorsisland ...

Continuing our countdown of our favorite 2017 moments on @governorsisland, here's a flashback to the first ever @worldoceanfestival on june 4, a free festival with @natgeo's speaking lineup of leading scientists and ocean advocates and hands-on activities surrounding the health of our ocean. we were honored to be joined by un officials and world leaders, including president of the united nations general assembly, h.e. peter thomson, deputy secretary amina mohammad, under secretary of social and economic affairs wu hongbo, prime minister of fiji frank bainimarama and many more. pictured here is the fijian military marching band, leading a procession of hundreds of ocean advocates along governors island's promenade. #fbf#worldoceanfestival#saveourocean 📸 via @worldoceanfestival
